Think Before You Tweet

I am getting ready to blast someone I actually like…and it almost hurts me. This person has been very good to me, and given words of encouragement a time or few. However, last night, he Tweeted something out that just made me see red. He’s generally a decent guy, but without context the tweet was just plain idiotic.

He is a Digital Emperor, and has a lot of awesome things going for him. He’s just released his first Iphone app. He’s got a great music service going and he has a blog. Yup, he’s a blogger and much more. Something I am striving to be. Let’s take a look at the tweet, then I will say why it peeved me off.

I don’t need another blog to read…what I need is another “doer of great shit” that I can admire.

As I said, I like Nathan. I can also see his point. However, without context, the comment seems to indicate he thinks he is above reading “new to him” blogs. May or may not be true. If I were a new follower who was embarking on my adventure in blogging, that would make me wonder if I was doing the right thing. It would upset me that someone I admired might never look at my blog until I got to the big time..if that was my aim and I got there.

Yes, we could use more people doing great things. Yet we all have to start somewhere. Nathan him self started out writing articles for a paltry sum each in order to fund his business start up while he was in Afghanistan as a member of the US Military. His story is inspiring to say the least.

However, just because you’ve “made it” does not mean you can say or do anything you want! We should think of others and help them. Nathan is great for helping those who cross his radar. However,  I think he should have thought a moment before posting the tweet in question. If someone like me, who admires and respects him, found that post off putting…imagine a newbie bloggers reaction. Especially with all the talk of the blogosphere being saturated! In this case, I think he could have done a lot more harm than good.

Here’s the kicker for me…I doubt he will care. He spoke his mind and will stand by it. The two of us and some others were in an almost heated discussion on another blog…and he came off as very narcissistic to some of us. There are times it seems Nathan has a hard time seeing others points of view. I sometimes wonder if the nice guy or the asshole is the real Nathan Hangen. The jury is still out for me on that one for now.

I know that one of the reasons his comment hit me hard is that I am working on becoming a do’er of great things. My start on that is building a great blog, and then moving on to great products. It’s going to take time, so I am depending on others to want another blog to read as I move up to a doer of great things. A LOT of people use this model these days. It would be easier to do it the other way around, but this is the most cost efficient way for me. And it pisses me off when it seems someone is knocking what I do. Most especially when they are doing the same darned thing.

So here’s my points for the day:

  1. Think before you tweet (or post to other social media)! You don’t have to keep it nicey nice, but don’t be a friggen hypocrite.
  2. Be very careful not to put people you admire on a pedestal. It will come back and bite you in the ass.
  3. Grow a thick skin if you are going to be doing something new to you. It will help you weed the naysayers from people with legitimate advice.
  4. Don’t depend on anyone’s thoughts to validate you or what you are doing. If you are, then you’re on shaky ground.
  5. Learn to call out the bullshit when you see it. It just feels good to tell it like it is.

I am sitting here in my first college class of the new term. In front of me is a lady (and I use the term loosely) who needs to learn where her waist is. As she sat down, her shirt pulled up and it was clear her pants are probably a size or two too small.

Then we have the males with their pants under their rear ends. This absolutely disgusts me! I don’t want to see your draws unless..well, this is a family oriented blog, but you get what I am saying I am sure.

Then we have the ladies with their tatas hanging out….OMG if you are selling it, wait til you leave the learning institution before your start advertising!

People need to remember that being covered leaves an air of mystery. Letting it hang out, or wearing clothes that are several sizes too small makes you look cheap at best. I am so sick of these people coming into classes dressed that way. It hurts my image and the image of the college its self.

People, if you can’t adequately cover your assets, stay at home please! No one wants to see your rear, your belly, your boobs, and so forth in public. If my big butt can keep myself well covered, any one can!

Down With Idiots

I hate stupid people. I really really do. I don’t mean those with mental disablities either. They are the way they are for a reason, and choice is NOT that reason! They need to be treated with caring and respect, just like any other person.

However, those who use excuses for why they can’t learn something piss me off! Especially when women use their gender for an excuse. WTF?!?!?! We can do almost anything a man can, and learning is an area where we can kick butt. Math is hard, but it doesn’t mean a woman can’t learn it.. I am so sick of that excuse it makes me want to barf when I hear it.

Then you have those that use the excuse they didn’t graduate high school or go to college. BFD! There are books and online information. READ THESE! Learn something and make yourself better. If you can’t read, I do have sympathy for you…but all you have to do is sign up for a course. If you can’t swallow your pride enough to learn a basic skill that is needed in everything from driving to ordering in a restaurant…Nope, no sympathy for you!

What about people who say they can’t learn because they don’t have time? HELLO?!?!? You have time to watch TV, rent movies, play video and computer games, sign on to Facebook and Twitter…but no time to better yourself by learning a little something. F’in Idiots!

Stupid really IS as stupid does, and I am sick of it. I wish we could give everyone a test to see if they are too stupid to realize that learning is something you need to do from birth to death. If they don’t realize that, deport them somewhere else. Preferably the moon.

I am sick of people not using their gift of free information. Use the internet and find stuff you are interested in and LEARN about it. Check out a book that’s  not all sex and romance. LEARN something useable….like how to cook. Ladies, cooking is hot, and I don’t mean the temperature.

You all with me? What examples of idiots are at the top of your “wish we could send ’em to the moon” list?

Excuses are for losers

Today we welcome a new contributor to the coots! Some female cantankerousness should be good for us.

She goes by the moniker Gurl, is on twitter @southrngurl6489, and is in reality, Jen Jinright!  Check out her blog at http://www.gurls-asylum.us/

Take it away Gurl!

So many people I know, myself included, have a million excuses as to why they can’t reach their dreams. Their dreams may even be something smallish, like getting a moderately priced item that is a need.

Why, oh, why do we sabotage ourselves with excuses when we should be looking for how we CAN instead of why we CAN’T? Its nothing more than fear. Why not give yourself a big self esteem boost and face that fear head on…and beat it? Even if you don’t reach your dream, you will learn from the attempt. Then the next time you can avoid the mistakes you made the first time..and the second time…and the next time. If you keep trying, you will eventually get there.

What fears are holding YOU back? When will you decide you want the life you dream of instead of what others think you “should” want? When will you make that first baby step to finding out that dreams can and do come true?

I made my first step about a month ago, and I’ve not looked back. I know I have a long, hard row to hoe. However, I also know I can and will succeed. I am giving myself no other choice, which I believe to be key in reaching your dreams. Giving your self permission to make mistakes but NOT permission to give up (unless you find that dream really doesn’t suit you, of course).

Take that first step today! Stop making excuses and look for the reasons why you can and will find the dream you’ve been hiding from for so long. Then think about what steps you need to get there, so you can take the next step tomorrow, and the third step the next day..and so forth, until you reach that mountain top. I’ll be the one cheering for you along the way 😉 Otherwise…you will always be a loser, and you don’t want that do ya?

So, I picked up a couple of self help books today. I started reading and it really sounds like BOTH authors started off well to do. Maybe not rich, but (with the small amount I’ve been able to get into either) it surely seems like they don’t remember having done without–if they ever did!

Why would someone like me, who is trying to get off the ground from a broke ass place, even think they could tell  me how I can make it???? I have VERY LITTLE to invest other than time and effort.

I am sick of people who really seem so far removed from who I am now trying to tell me I can make money this way or that way. Sure–they made MORE money with their efforts, but once you have money making money gets a touch easier I’d bet. You can make more when you have a bit to invest. When you can’t even afford the tools of the trade without juggling bills and stretching the dollar, its damn neigh impossible (or so it seems).

I want to find a story about someone who started from a place where they were going to charities to get the essentials paid while praying the not so essential stuff didn’t get cut off before their check (what ever type it might be) came in. I want a story about someone who made it despite being poorer than poor when it came to money. I don’t want they story to be one of over night success, I just want it to be real and from someone I can frigging relate to.

Maybe in a few years I will be writing that story, but until then…what the hell is someone like me supposed to do when they want someone to relate to that they can also look up to and learn from?

Maybe I am wrong and everyone one of these motivational writers and speakers started out when they were eating deer stew and thankful someone they knew had been kind enough to share the meat. Maybe they did start when they were juggling bills and praying to keep the utilities on plus one or two extras. Well..they need to tell THAT story as well as their successes in my opinion. Let the common man related to you. There are more lower middle class and poor people than there are middle upper class on up….Write something these people can relate to. Go find the stories that haven’t been written of those who’ve succeeded against such rough looking odds…and TELL them.

If you stay tuned long enough..I will write that story. The one where I succeed against all odds, and I will tell the ugly side of where I am starting from…and hope that someone like me will pick it up and find they can relate. Then I hope they take my story as motivation from them to get out there and do it themselves.
