Is it just me or was Friday just yesterday.  Must be me becasue Friday was last week!  And then March is gone as well.

Oh Well.  These days it seems like time is fleeting and going faster than is really necessary, but it is still going!  We are trying to figure out what we will be doing when we get to Florida for Amelia’s Wish and there is an amazing amount of crap to do in Disney World.  It seems like we should be able to sit down and have the whole thing planned in an hour or two but we are going on a week or more and still don’t have everything nailed down.

When it does get nailed down, it will change though.  That is the only thing I am certain of.  Maybe I need to get Ralph to help out.  He has been halfway around the world.  I have a 6 hour trip.  With 4 kids.  Maybe I can get “Uncle Ralph” to come and we can pick up “Uncle Bob” on the way through.

That would be wild.  3 coots in the Magic Kingdom.  Sounds like a novel where at least one gets arrested.  Maybe I should write that as a series of shorts while we are gone.  I am going to be making videos and writing about the trip anyway over at Ameliasmakeawish.com.  I am rambling and have now forgotten the original point of this post.

Maybe the sands of time that I started with should be compared with the brain cells that seem to be deserting me at much the same rate. I could blame it on sleep deprivation or getting older, but I don’t know the cause.

How fast is your hourglass being emptied?  And what should be the more pressing question, are you going to be able to turn it over?  If you remember, Dorthy tried in vain to turn over the hourglass that the witch set for her….is that where we are here?

The new NFL logo went into use at the 2008 draft.

Ha!  Got you on that one didn’t I.  Truth is I love football and now that it is back, albeit in preseason, the world is a better place, the planets are aligning and peace is coming.  But not amid NFL fans.

Here is what I am on about today.  My )(**&^^&*&&*^&^%*(&^*^&%*()_(*^%^&(*&%^$% kids and their complaining about me watching football.  I have choice words for them.  It is not like they have been raised from the womb to be football fans.  Not like some of the first outfits they ever wore bore Bronco blue and orange.  Not like the first phrase I was trying to get out of them was “Go Broncos!”

It is not even like they don’t have jersey’s to wear for games!  They just complain.  One goes so far as to complain about fishing but that is another post.

Granted this is just pre-season today.  There are 3 more preseason games to make them come around.  Or not.  I really don’t care as long as they don’t thwart my viewing.

I anxiously await more football.  For now, I want to go fishing.  But I have to get some money made.  Have a great Monday and look for a special promotion next week!

September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City: V...

It is hard to believe that it has been 11 years since the Twin Towers went down.

It is also interesting to note that every movie I have seen in the last 10 years where they show the skyline of New York City I actually know and miss the towers.  Any movie shot in New York before 2011 has the towers and I know that they are gone.

The city my parents live in do the flag field, one American flag for everyone who died in New York and Pennsylvania that day.  It is an awesome site.  The city hall has a flagpole that is a bronze recreation of the famous photo of the firemen raising the flag over the rubble.

I can remember that day very clearly.  I can remember my wife coming home shouting at me to get up at 7:30 on the morning.  I thought something was wrong with her or the apartment, but she was flipping on the TV and we watched the second plane hit the tower. We were glued to the TV the rest of the day.

During the Fourth of July celebrations we put on the patriotic playlist and a couple of those songs are ones that were made right after 9/11.  They are montages of news reports and eyewitness statements set to music.  They move even me to this day, remembering the lives lost, the heroism of the firefighters and police that went headlong into danger trying to save people.

And of course, the heroism of those men who wouldn’t let the other plane hit the capitol.  They traded their lives for their country.  Sure the building itself could be rebuilt, but the symbol would be marred.  The ideal of the United States would be tarnished.  Their sacrifice kept with the ideals of those rebels from 1776 who founded this country with their own blood.

When I think of those on that plane the lines from America the Beautiful, “Who more than selves their country loved” are fitting.  Patriots dream indeed.

So today, we are united as a country.  We are all here together, resisting tyranny, and defending this land with everything we have.

We are in the midst of division this year with the election coming up, and people clamoring for one side or another.  Today, we all stand as Americans, not black, not white, not republican, not democrat, Americans.   We look back at those who shone as examples of the American spirit.  We look with solemn remembrance at those innocents who died while at work.

We look at this day, September 11th, at Patriot Day, as a day to celebrate all that is good in the Spirit of America.  Don’t treat this as just another day.  Sing patriotic songs.  Fly your flag, read the Constitution, remember what this country was founded on.  Then, remember that all of those things were made by people who had ideals, who had vision, and who had the best interests of this country in mind.

Thank you Heroes and Patriots of 9/11, your sacrifice makes this a better country, and us better Americans.

This is the current logo for The Rant
Image via Wikipedia

Do you see what I have been reduced to this week?  I am actually going to write a rant about another rant.  My brain is getting soft this week, maybe I need to split up the podcasts.

So, the other day I was sent a link to this rant that I have reproduced below.  The audio is not very good, it is not your speakers.  The day that I received this link I didn’t have time to watch it right away.  But I thought, hey, it’s a Bill Murray Rant it has to be good right?

I finally got around to watching it and was sorely disappointed.  Not only was it an extremely poor rant, it was way to scripted and poorly acted.  Not what I expected from a Bill Murray rant.

In fact, it was so bad that I had to go listen to my Denis Leary CD just to get my ears burning with a good rant or two.

What is the point and why would you want to watch this clip now?  Well I don’t have a good answer for that.  I think it is a case of an actor who can really deliver some lines in movies gets pegged to try stand up.  And then doesn’t write it himself.  There is just no soul to it.  I don’t blame Bill Murray, I blame whoever wrote this piece of garbage.

I only agree with the line about R2D2 being a fine actor.  Can’t go wrong with a Star Wars reference.  Here is a tip from me to you, completely free but still a part of the Cantankerous Old Coots University.  If you are going to rant on something, it had better sound real.  You can write it out and memorize it but when you deliver it, it should sound like you are extemporizing and not like you are reading the phone book.

Check out Bill Hicks, Denis Leary, George Carlin and old Dennis Miller for how to do it right.  If you are really adventurous, Sam Kinison awaits you.

Send in your questions for Ask A Coot Saturday and have a great weekend.

This site is not going to tell you not to blog.

We also are not going to blow smoke at you and keep filling your little head with dreams of getting rich quick while eating ice cream in your underwear and only working for an hour a day.  Not including bathroom breaks.

We are also not going to give you advice on how to blog, how to set up a site or how to run it into the ground.  We are not going to tell you, well we probably will tell you how neat we are.  The Consortium of Coots is pretty neat.  Don’t forget it or I will crash your system.

This site is to tell stories and vent grievences.  To tell how it is without regard for anyones feelings.  If your feelbads get hurt while you are here, then you probably do not belong her in the first place.  How’s that for Cantankerous.

This site exists to be something a bit different in Blogistan.  Maybe like your strange Uncle that shows up to the family reunions and just lurks in the corner waiting to regale the young ones with stories of the past.

I intend to post Manly topics like skinning game and setting snares.  Topics that will make strong men weep freely like the loss of a good dog or the benefits of duct tape and zip ties.

If you are easily offended, get out.  If you want to be offended and argue, bring it on.  Comments are always available and contact forms abound on the site.  My email is justin@cantankerousoldcoots.com.

Just be aware, comments and contention will probably lead to a guest post request so get something ready.

That is all.
